ABRSM Grade 4 distinction for Shiyi

Congratulations to Shiyi on Achieving a Distinction in Her ABRSM Piano, Performance Grade 4 Exam!

I am thrilled to share the wonderful news that my pupil, Shiyi Xue, has been awarded a Distinction in her ABRSM Piano, Performance Grade 4 exam. This is an incredible achievement, and I couldn’t be prouder of her dedication and hard work.

Shiyi’s performance was truly outstanding across all the pieces she prepared:

1. Pescetti: Presto (Sonata No. 6 in C minor)
   Shiyi delivered a lively and energetic performance, showcasing her ability to maintain security in both notes and rhythm. Her phrasing was effective, and she skillfully used tonal contrasts to enhance the character of the piece. The examiner noted this as an “idiomatically aware account.”
2. Chaminade: Idylle
   The melodic line was clear and beautifully sustained, with Shiyi demonstrating a keen understanding of stylistic nuances through her use of the pedal. Her hands were well-synchronised, and she achieved a persuasive balance that communicated the music’s character with authority.
3. Nevada: Ninette’s Musette
   Shiyi’s performance here was both flowing and controlled, with a clear projection of the melody and well-managed accompaniment. Her use of rubato was convincing, effectively capturing the mood of the piece.
4. Lyadov: Prelude in D minor
   With a stable pulse and varied tonal colours, Shiyi gave a musically engaging account of this piece. While there was room for a bit more projection in places, the overall performance was praised for its shape and variety.

The examiner was particularly impressed with the overall performance, highlighting Shiyi’s ability to differentiate between the varying characters of her chosen pieces. Her pacing, interpretation, and technical skills were consistently strong throughout, leading to this excellent final result.

This outstanding result reflects Shiyi’s hard work, talent, and passion for music. Congratulations once again, Shiyi—you have made us all very proud!
