Anna’s Take

When I was working in Spain teaching a few of my private pupils owned a Casio digital so I was very interested to review their more up to date instruments. The Celviano range includes the GP300, GP400 and GP500 hybrid digital models.

Designed in cooperation with C. Bechstein, at the heart of the GP range is the revolutionary Natural Grand Hammer Action, combining full-length wooden keys (manufactured using the same Austrian spruce as that used by C. Bechstein) with moving hammers to provide an authenticity of touch that is far beyond any other digital piano.

The GP emulates three prestigious European grand pianos: a Berlin Grand and Vienna Grand offering an impressive low range with a warm tone great for both soft & vigorous playing and a Hamburg Grand offering a brilliant, rich sound, loved for its wide range of expression.

The GP range actually uses a full grand piano action mechanism. You get an action that doesn’t just feel like a grand piano – this is the feel of a grand piano. Lifting the lid, you even see the hammers in motion. The drive for excellence is apparent all over the GP range.

A six-speaker Grand Acoustic system delivers the power of an acoustic grand piano, whilst a Headphone Mode optimises the piano tone for silent practice.

All Grand Hybrids are equipped with USB Audio Record and Playback. This means you can make audio recordings of your performances and play back commercially-available backing tracks via USB memory stick. This convenient recording feature is also backed with full USB connectivity to your PC or MAC computer for more advanced MIDI recording and playback operations.

With additional features like 256 note polyphony, dual headphone connections and a built-in LCD display and control panel, the GP range offers all of the convenience of a digital and the real feel and rich sound of an acoustic piano.
