ABRSM Piano Syllabus 2023-2024

The new ABRSM syllabus has recently been released and the following information will be useful to you if you are preparing to take an exam, either face-to-face or digital performance grades.

What’s changing and when?

• Refreshed repertoire lists at all grades
• Greater choice of repertoire than ever before, with each list extended to 13 pieces (39 pieces in total per grade)
• A wide variety of music from a more diverse range of composers than in the past
• Each grade includes 18 new choices alongside 21 retained pieces from the 2021 & 2022 lists

Syllabus validity

The Piano Syllabuses 2023 & 2024 come into effect on 1 January 2023.

• Candidates can begin to present pieces from the 2023 & 2024 repertoire lists from 1 January 2023.
• Candidates can continue to present pieces from the 2021 & 2022 repertoire lists during the overlap period (see below)

Syllabus overlap

A one-year overlap period applies to the previous syllabus.

• Candidates can present pieces from the 2021 & 2022 repertoire lists until 31 December 2023.
• Candidates taking their exams in 2023 must choose all their three set pieces from the same syllabus.
