Today I had the great pleasure of presenting an ABRSM Grade 2 Distinction certificate to my pupil Ann.

Ann played a wonderful programme consisting of Hässler: Ecossaise in G (No. 23 from 50 pièces à l’usage des commençans, Op. 38), Trad. English: O Waly Waly, arr. Davies, Brian Chapple: March Hare (No. 5 from In the Pink) and finishing with Anne Crosby Gaudet: Angelfish.

The examiners notes were a pleasure to read: Hässler: Ecossaise in G (No. 23 from 50 pièces à l’usage des commençans, Op. 38) “The playing was tidy, with clear articulation and effective tonal contrast between sections… it was a positive performance.”Trad. English: O Waly Waly, arr. Davies “The opening created the gentle mood, and the melody was well projected and expressively shaped throughout”, Brian Chapple: March Hare (No. 5 from In the Pink) “The bouncing character came across, and notes and rhythms were highly accurate”, Anne Crosby Gaudet: Angelfish “there was dynamic contrast, notes were highly accurate, and the ending was effective.”

Summing up the performance “Stylistic differentiation was effective, with room to develop phrase shaping and dynamic detail – even when it was not marked in the score. The delivery was consistently assured, with accuracy and fluency”

I would like to thank Ann for her hard work as we finalised the preparation in the lead-up to the exam.
