The new ABRSM piano syllabus for 2019/2020 has been published.
The format of the books and exams have not changed. Pieces from List A are mostly early classical and baroque, List B are Romantic pieces while List C contain a mixture of jazz, contemporary, pop and show tunes.
Grades 1-3 concentrate on pieces children & beginners can master and will enjoy playing while the later grades 4-8 become progressively more complex as usual.
If you have been studying the previous syllabus with me, don’t worry; you can still play pieces from the 2017 & 2018 syllabus until 31 May 2019. There are no changes to scales, sight-reading or aural tests.
Overall, I think the new repertoire is well put together containing a nice balance between the familiar classics and the lesser-known more unusual scores.
I’ve updated my buyers guide page to reflect the new requirements.
