Many congratulations to Yvonne, who has achieved a Distinction in her ABRSM Grade 7 Piano Performance exam!

She performed a varied and imaginative programme:

  • Martinu: Allegretto (No. 4 from Čtvrtky a osminky)

  • Moszkowski: Calme du soir (No. 2 from 10 petits morceaux, Op. 94)

  • Christopher Norton: New Kid (from the Jazz Preludes Collection)

  • Dianne Goolkasian Rahbee: Prelude: Twilight, Op. 69

Each piece brought its own challenges and character, from the rhythmic vitality of Martinu’s Allegretto to the lyrical charm of Moszkowski’s Calme du soir, the jazzy flair of Norton’s New Kid, and the atmospheric calm of Rahbee’s Twilight.

The examiner praised her rhythmic control, sensitive pedalling, and the way she captured the contrasting styles of her programme. Highlights included crisp articulation and energy in the Martinu, a singing melodic line in the Moszkowski, fluent improvisatory character in the Norton, and a well-balanced texture and atmosphere in the Rahbee.

Preparing for a performance exam at this level requires not only technical skill but also musical maturity, and Yvonne showed both with commitment and poise. The Distinction mark reflects the quality of her interpretations and her ability to communicate music with real character.

It has been a joy to see her progress and to share in this success. Well done, Yvonne – a richly deserved result, and a wonderful step forward in your musical journey!
